Remember me?
October 5th, 2009
I'm glad to be back!
Well, we have made it past the halfway mark of our tour and I haven't gained a pound yet...knock on wood. The family rolled home from a super weekend at Disney yesterday. This was the fourth year I have done the Epcot food and wine festival and this is the first year without a drop of rain. Jack is exactly 40 inches tall which opens up rides more his speed (fast) and style (dizzy). We took Brooke's parents again and mom and Mike made it so it was the whole family except for Bobby who high tailed it out west.
The tour has been great. Thanks to all of y'all who bought the new book and have helped support us by coming out to the book signing's.
This means you Joey.
We were the number one selling book in Louisville a few weeks ago, beating some guy named Dan Brown by an eyelash, and held the number fifteen spot as well with Y'all Come Eat. I haven't had time to do much other than hit the ground running everyday and am so thankful to be home for a few days. The next stop for us is the big food and wine show in NY this coming weekend then to QVC on Sunday and down to Philly for a few days the first of the week.....I think.
I was home for two days last week busy working on our next project, I'm gonna keep it a secret for now but it is exciting. As soon as I get the go ahead from higher up I will share it....
Brooke and I knew Jack would want to catch up on his sleep after four days of running his little legs off so of course he stayed up until 10:30 last night and was up at 5:30 this morning. At least he waited until 6:30 to drop a book (a HEAVY one) on my face in the middle of our animal pit game and busted my lip. It's the small pleasure's in life that are best don't y'all think? He is off to school while his momma catches her breath and I'm headed downtown to catch up on three weeks worth of business.
Just because you don't hear from me does'nt mean I'm not thinking about y'all. I am gonna try my best to keep up with the weekly blog on the road but a typical day for us starts between 3 and 4 in the morning with a trip to the airport, a new city and work until 11 o'clock or so and the days do slip by.
I haven't forgotten the "Ask the Deen Brothers" section either, at last count I have a hundred staring me in the face and I will get to them.....soon. Eventually.
Two highlight's from the tour: Lynn's Paradise Cafe in Louisville and the good people of Fairhope Alabama, a few things that made the hard road softer.
Thanks for being patient with me, three more weeks and I'll be home for good, now go out and do good.

Hi Jamie
great to see another blog from ya! i do declare, the Deen/Groover family is gonna collapse from exhaustion one of these days! y’all do so much in so little time. yet we fans surely appreciate it. all the tiring trips and y’all continue to be yourselves : kind and thoughtful. Squeeze a cheek! lol
also great to hear you will get to the Q&A section..when you have time. Hope to see some new pics here too! its a great way for us to “be there” when we cant be.
thanks again for the blog, its as time consuming as the other things you do… Hey to Bobby, and family.
have fun, eat well

Hey Jamie,
Of course we remember you. I don’t think that I will ever forget you or Bobby or the day that I met you two. I wouldn’t have missed that book signing for anything in this world. It was so much more than I expected. I knew it was going to be great and it turned out even greater. Thanks again for making it so special for me. I sent you some pictures from that day and I hope that you get them. Sounds like you had a great time at Disney with Brooke, Jack, and the family. I know you are tired and please get some rest before this next half of the book tour. Ok and ummmm….now you have me excited and curious about this “new” project. Can’t wait to find out what it is. Tell Bobby HEY for me!!!!! Talk to you again soon.

Keep doing what you are doing..You and Brooke just keep sending positive out wherever you go!! I loved the article in your mamma’s magazine with Brooke and Jack in it. Hey Jamie!
Glad to know that you go a break, I know y’all need it. It was good to see you in Greenville.
Bobby is in L.A. a lot lately..
I was in Savannah this past weekend and had a blast. Went down to River St. for the Oktoberfest..had a cold beer..and then went and saw Jay! He actually knew my name before I even said it. He directed me and my friend to the roof @ the Bohemian and it was awesome..we closed it down.
Really hated to miss you and Bobby! This will not be my last trip for sure, so I hope to catch y’all again soon. Savannah feels like home to me and it is really heart breaking when I have to leave.
Anyway, be safe and see you soon!
Tell Bobby I said Hey!!

Hello Jamie,
My mom and I were at the book signing in Louisville. We are the ones that brought the Derby glasses. We had some pictures from your mom’s cooking school at the restaurant that you all signed for us. I wanted to get a copy of the picture to you and to Bobby but was not sure the of the best way to get those to you all. We enjoyed seeing you all again and look forward to seeing you all in the future.

So very glad to read your latest post! I was missing being able to read up on what y’all have going on. I completely understand why you haven’t had the time to blog though.
I actually got to see both Deen boys at the book signing in Savannah on Sept. 19th. Y’all are as charming as ever! Here’s an idea….how about y’all create a section on here where we all can post our book tour photos. That way, those who haven’t had the opportunity to attend one can get a better feel for it and get to see yall’s smiling faces. Just a thought. Thanks for all y’all do!

Hi Jaime and Bobby, It is so cool to hear that you loved Louisville and Lynn’s Paradise Cafe. I am originally from Louisville but now live in Hinesville. I went to Lynn’s when I was home in March for my grandmother’s funeral. It was such a cool place and the food was awesome.
Loved seeing you and Bobby at the Savannah book signing. Don’t know if you remember my husband and me but we have the sons that go to Georgia Southern and Valdosta State. We always enjoying getting the chance to see you all and say Hi. Hope to see you at Lady and Sons soon.

hi! it was so exciting to meet you at disney! then meeting your mama was just a wonderful surprise! this was the most exciting day and after the wonderful meal, a hug from your mama, and a short chat with you…i am telling all my costumers and showing pictures..they are all jealous..giggling…stay safe out there on the road!

Saw you guys at the Louisville Book signing. Bobby named my 4 year old son’s toy raccoon “Rocky”. So he’s telling everyone that Bobby Deen gave him a racoon named Rocky… then I have to tell the whole story. Really enjoyed coming face to face with the sweetest southern gentlemen that I ever met. Missed you guys at our August trip to Tybee at Uncle Bubba’s signing, but what a nice surprise to see you in Louisville. I got so nervous when I got close to Bobby I froze up, he is a little gift from heaven.
Erika Williams on October 08 2009
Erika, I completely understand where you’re coming from! I had several things that I had planned on talking to Bobby about at the signing, but when I got up on stage with the boys, everything totally left me, and I was practically speechless! Thankfully, my mom wasn’t shy at all, so we did get to talk for a little bit…just not about what I originally had in mind.

Jamie,
Talk about a rough football weekend - both the Dawgs and my KC Chiefs lost (again). At least I had Bobby’s goulash waiting for me in my crockpot after getting home from watching the game at The Quarter. Yummy recipe…with leftovers. Slowly but surely making my way through the new cookbook. Enjoyed my first Pirate Fest parade - good time even with the torrential downpour.
Saw you and Bobby on GMA Saturday morning. I see that travel hasn’t affected the weight loss -you look great. You obviously have some willpower and secrets I need to adopt for my own business travel. The rosemary chicken and new potatoes you made was actually the main course at my Deen Family Dinner (minus the Deen’s) Party. Your mother was there in spirit (and cardboard) it was such a fun night - my friends are still talking about it.
Safe travels,
Hallie - Savannah, GA
P.S. Our Savannah Chapter of the American Singles Golf Association is growing - we have 13 official members. Playing Savannah Harbor in November. Also look to start a Mulligan’s for Mammograms fundraising program for our chapter this month. We look to do lots of “good things” locally with this organization.

Dear Sherri,
I wanted to address your comment about “Savannah feels like home and it’s heartbreaking to leave.” I completely understand and felt the same way. I’m originally from Missouri and have lived all over this country given my profession. For 12 years I had been visiting Savannah - something always pulled me back here. Anytime I had a business meeting nearby or some extra time, I would look to spend a few days here…and I HATED leaving. A year ago July - I finally made Savannah my home. It has lived up to ALL expectations and then some. Everyone is SO wonderful and there is so much to do here - my social calendar is fuller than its ever been. If you ever get the chance to move here - just do it!!
Sincere Regards,
Hallie - Savannah, GA

Hey Jamie and Bobby,
First, glad to hear things are going really well with your latest cookbook/book tour! Thanks for taking the time to blog/twitter with such a super busy schedule…it’s ALWAYS GREAT to hear from you guys! I love coming to the Deen book signings, I’ve been to a couple of them, and it’s a great way to see you all! Wish we could make it for tomorrow’s book signing but we’ll catch the next ones. Have fun!
Enjoy your time at home and take care!!
Erika, Allison and Connie…I agree too with what you all had said…I’ve experienced where my brain went totally blank and the only thing I could get out was ‘Hi’ but like Connie said, once they started talking it got easier and made me feel not so nervous:) It’s really nice to see how down to earth they are and sweet…and funny too!!
Have a great week!

Had so much fun meeting you in Dallas! I’m headed your direction on Thursday and hope to pop into Lady & Son’s for lunch on Friday. Maybe we will be lucky enough to catch some of the Deens there????
Great book BTW, can’t wait to hear about your new project.

So glad the tour is going well. Isn’t Disney great? Used to live in Orlando and always went to the Food and Wine Festival.
Just saw that you and Bobby are doing an appearance in Tybee in December. That is my birthday and I’ve really been wanting to get back to Savannah! Might just have to make that trip work somehow. Down there last year same time and it was FREEZING! But I’m in need of some serious vacation time.
Take care and best wishes…

Hey Jamie,
So glad you are back! I sure missed hearing from you.
Isn’t Disney the best place in the world? I bet Jack had a blast. I do every time I am there! and I am a bit older than him!!! ok a big bit!!!
Of course, your book is # 1! Dan Brown who??? It’s great!! So many yummy recipes. Many of us on the blog and on Twitter have tried and commented on them. You have quite a network of pals,or as we say, friends, you know!
Use ice on you lip as much as you can, will keep the swelling down and keep it from hurting too much. Must be fun when you have to talk for a living!!
As much as I love hearing from you , you gotta do what you can in a day. We know you are thinking about us and I hope you know we are thinking of you. We, also, want you to know we are here if you need us. I really hope you know that.
We love you Deen’s and want your happiness as much as we want our own.
Hope you get a little rest and enjoy Brooke and Jack while you are home.
What time will you be on QVC?
Be safe on your travels.
So happy you are “back”!
love y’all,
Deb M
